I was going to say this already without even really realizing the obvious connection, but the Sharknado series has . . . jumped the shark. Sharknado toed the line between being bad and knowing just how bad it really was. I’m sure the makers of Sharknado expected it to be one of those so-bad-it’s-funny movies, but maybe not on the scale that it turned out to be. So Sharknado 2: The Second One with its name alone lets you know that it absolutely knows how so-bad-it’s-funny it is, to the point that it’s not really bad anymore, just funny. And when you have people who can’t make a decent action movie try to be funny, it just doesn’t really work. Sharknado 2: The Second One feels like how I imagine watching Snakes on a Plane alone, not in a theater must feel. The Sharknado ship sailed along with the first movie.
This movie was kind of interesting. I think it was definitely pretty terrible and it was funny because of that but I think overall the movie was way too self-aware to be as good as the first one. I got real tired of all the cameos in the film. It started feeling like a part of the Scary Movie or Not Another . . . franchise. Watch the first one for sure but I don’t think this one was too necessary.
